About El Chalan
El Chalan Restaurant was founded in 1985 by Mario Abanto. After arriving in Miami from Peru in the early 1970’s, Mario came to the United States like many before him seeking the famous American Dream. Mario ultimately accomplished his dream and along the way helped many others in Peru and the United States accomplish their dreams too. As one of the oldest Peruvian restaurants in Florida, multiple generations of the Abanto family have helped build El Chalan to be the community institution that it is today. Both of the restaurant’s locations – on Bird Road and Miami Beach – are staples among the Peruvian community, and though the decor has been upgraded, the food remains just as good as when Mario first opened. Come say hello and have a great meal that you won’t forget.

Testimonials
Good Peruvian comfort food, not as expensive as other restaurants. My family has been eating here since it opened. Even though we don’t live nearby anymore, we drive 40 minutes each way to eat here once a month. Don’t be fooled by other restaurants that call themselves authentic Peruvian, others may have nicer locations but this is the real deal.
– Carmen A.Best Peruvian food. This is the most authentic Peruvian food I’ve had in Miami. Service is awesome and staff is friendly. The ceviche is my favorite.
– Hatham A.If you’re looking for a simple family style place with tasty food, good service and reasonable prices, check this out. We enjoyed a very nice meal with a mountain of fried seafood and a thin grilled steak and closed it out with a slice of yummy chocolate cake. Service was excellent and they let us sit and chat as long as we wanted without any pressure. They were out of the whole fried snapper so that will be our excuse to go next time. Will definitely visit again!
– Alison J.They have the best ceviche I have ever had. Also, I suggest you try the Chaufa Peruvian Fried Rice and the Quatro Leches dessert.
– Wagner A.Excellent and authentic Peruvian food! This place has been around since 1985. It’s lasted for a reason: Authentic, fresh, delicious Peruvian food. This tastes like your Peruvian grandma just made dinner for you! Very good food indeed. I had the fish chunks and they were extremely fresh, all meat, Corvina, and delicious flavor. Pair it with a good wine and you’re all set!
– Marilyn S.We had an amazing experience everything was really good, the food was incredible but mainly the service, our food runner Jorge was very attentive. He gave one of the best services I’ve experienced in any kind of restaurant. God bless him and this place. Will for sure be coming back soon.
– Carlos V.I have been visiting this hidden gem for 25 years. The same waitstaff still there, bread upon arrival amazing, this place is hands down some of the best seafood ever made. The fried shrimp, the ceviche just fabulous. Don’t be fooled by the location it’s a secret haven of delightful deliciousness.
– Marilyn F.Best family style meals. I’ve honestly tried everything on the menu. Everything is always fresh, and the service is the best. No Peruvian food better than this one near Tropical Park. South Beach location is fire too!
– Fernando M.Was in the area for work and came in for lunch. Very delicious. My friend and I both got Lomo Saltado, and we got papa a la huancaina as an appetizer. Great food and friendly staff. Delicious coffee too.
Camilo V.We have been coming for years, always good quality food, flavor and environment; for family & friends.
